Since the Battle of the Year was no tournament consider this an event
report:
The Footcon called and they came! After organizing free tickets for this
years
Swiss National Breakdance Final the call went out to all freestylers in the
area
to gather for a major shred at the sidelines of this event.
And who came? Well first were German Champion Jan Zimmermann
along with the crew
of Planet Footbag Zürich second to answer the call were int. European
Champ Ole
Schnack with the lovely German Championess Jule Böhm, both making
the long trip
from Berlin. Next in line was int. vice Champion of the World Marc Inzinger
coming from Darmstadt (whom nobody has seen play since worlds, do to
a lingering
injury). To top it all off the "Nemesis", "Spiderman", the "Lord" Mr. Andrew
McCarger from Munich showed up completing the lineup of continental
Europeas
Best Freestyle Players to represent at the Battle of the Year Switzerland.
(O.K., O.K., there were a few missing such as Mr. Radical Alex
Michelewski and
the Drachenjäger David Latotzky both from Berlin and the two up and
coming
stylers Tillman Witzlar (Darmstadt) and Sebastian "TinTin" Kleinichen
(Frankfurt))
So what happened?
The Players all showed up around noon and gathered for the first warm
up session
inside the arena, build up for the night still being in progress. Since the
weather wasn't all that great, only a couple of hundred spectators showed
up for
the outside stage, where local DJ's, MC's and Break Dancers got a
chance to
perform. At around 3pm the sun began to shine a little so we moved our
stuff
outside and continued to play. Consequently quite a few people stopped
to watch,
stare and even tried to play themselves, the players of Planet Footbag
Zürich
handing out leaflets for their weekly trining sessions to all interested.
At 8pm the official event began, so once again we moved inside to stake
out our
terrain before the crowd got too big. We chose a spot right oposite the
main
stage where the lighting was good enough and we had excellent
exposition. Now
play was on and off players dropping out every once in a while to get food,
drinks or just rest a while.
When the Breakdance Battle started, most of the players were dead on
their feet
after aprx. 10 hours of on and off shredding, so they slowly migrated to the
chillout tent outside the arena.
In the end it was only Ole, Jule and Jan remaining. They rested a while
and
watched the breakdance shows (footbag really has a long way to go in
terms of
show effect!). After half the crews were through, half an hour break was
announced for the judges to make their scores. A DJ put on some old
school tunes
and the crowd turned to other amusements. Namely Ole and Jan who
had started
playing again. For half an hour they shredded their hearts out, being
pushed by
a growing circle of spectators, only stopping when finally the next
breakdnace
crew was due on stage.
At around midnight we started heading home. Three days after I'm still
suffering
from fatigue. My legs are killing me and I could hardly hit a clipper at
practice yesterday. I know most of the other players feel the same.
None the less it was a night to remember, I hope I'll get some pictures
online
soon for you all to see what happens when the Footstars burn the floor.
Hope to see most of you someday, hope ya'll make it to the Euros this
summer!
...choose the bag...

Hello people, short notice I know but none the less.
The players of Planet Footbag Zurich have been invited to the biggest
Hip Hop
Event in Switzerland, the Swiss breakdance Finals 2000 in the
Saalsporthalle
Zurich.
We will have our own Shred Arena and will basically show those Baggie
Pants
wearers why its good to wear skinny shorts sometimes.
Since we are getting 10 free tickets for the Zurich players as well as a
few
FOOTSTARS from Berlin, anyone who is in the area is welcome to drop
by and
shred with us. The entry fees (about 30 US$ a person) will be split
among all
players minus the ten free tickets.
I know this is basically not a real Footbag event, but anyhow this could
develope into something big in the future. An aproximated 6000
Spectators are
expected for the event! Footbag and Breakdance Rockin the place
together...
See Ya!
