Oakland, California is playing host to this year's IFPA World Footbag Championships, and is opening its arms to the footbag community.
Oakland is the largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area, where several of the largest and oldest footbag clubs are working together to put this event on. Among the clubs represented are the Bay Area Footbag Club (BAFL), Stanford University Footbag Club, Chaos Footbag Club, Santa Cruz Footbag Club and the United Flyers of Sonoma (UFOS). These clubs are working together to bring the worlds to life and deliver a well-run event.
We have a great venue and accommodations and look forward to hosting the footbag world. The Oakland Marriott and Convention Center will play host for this all-in-one venue. These two complexes are attached with complete safety and ease of travel for the players. It is literally a two-minute walk -- completely indoors -- between the hotel lobby and the convention center. On top of that, the BART train system has an exit just in front of the hotel's main entrance for those who are not staying in the host hotel.

Host Hotel: Oakland Marriott City Center Corner of Broadway and 11th St. Oakland, California $113.03 per night room rates including Tax and service charge if booked before July 1st, 2010. 4 persons to a room or $28.36 each per night. Corner Broadway and 11th St. Oakland, California The Marriott and the Convention Center are attached and on the same property. Transportation: Airports: The closest airport is Oakland International (OAK), which is a short train ride from the hotel. However, many flights will probably be into SFO (San Francisco International airport), and others may be into SJC (San Jose Int'l). Oakland International is a hub for Southwest Airlines, good for North American travel (Direct access to BART by AirBart). SFO is usually better for international flights. BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit); Direct access to Marriott's front door (12th St./City Center Station, go to 11th St. exit.) The absolute fastest way to get good directions is to click on "Directions: To Here" on the map above. Then type SFO, SJC, or OAK depending on the airport you are flying into (or if you are coming from somewhere else, put that information instead). Once you are on Google Maps' directions screen, change to "public transit" to see the BART directions for each airport. For your convenience, we also have a brief description of each option below (but the link in the map is really the best way to ensure accurate directions). From Oakland International Airport: You simply follow signs to AirBART which is a $3 cash bus ride to the BART station at Coliseum/Oakland Airport. From there, buy a ticket on BART northbound to the 12th St./Oakland City Center station ($1.75 each way, or round-trip for $3.50). The total ride on the train is about 11 minutes. On reaching the 12 St./Oakland City Center station, look for the signs for the 11th Street exit, which is directly in front of the Marriott. Welcome. From San Francisco International Airport: The best option is BART (the Bay Area Rapid Transit system train). We do not recommend taxi because it is quite far and you must go through San Francisco first, and then across the Bay Bridge, which can be very bad traffic taking over an hour. Thankfully, the BART goes through a separate underground tunnel to the east bay. The BART station is directly in the SFO International Terminal just next to the international departures (look for signs either via the Sky Train that goes between terminals or if you are in the International Terminal, simply go upstairs to the departure area and look for signs. Look on the map for the 12th St/Oakland City Center Station, and plan your trip accordingly. The trip should cost $8.40 from SFO to 12th St./Oakland City Center. Depending on which route you take, you probably need to change trains at West Oakland and switch to the Richmond Line to get to 12th St./Oakland City Center. The ride should be about 43 minutes total. When you exit the train, follow the signs to the 11th St. exit -- that's the exit in front of the hotel. From San Jose International Airport: The best way is to take the BART shuttle from the airport to the Fremont BART station (ask for directions if you don't see it). You then buy a ticket northbound to the 12st St./Oakland City Center station ($4.00 each way, or you can buy both directions at once for $8.00). The BART ride is 37 minutes, not counting the shuttle from San Jose airport. Once you arrive in the station, exist via the 11th Street exit and you will be directly in front of the Marriott. Welcome.
