Every Athlete Competing and visiting as a non-competitor in the 2010 IFPA World Footbag Championships will need to receive a wristband credential that allows you access to the sports complex and all footbag related activities. The Footbag Hall of Fame Ceremony will be held Monday evening after the Opening Ceremony. There will be party to follow.

Showcase Events

The Oakland Convention Center will be the site of the 2010 IFPA World Footbag Championship Showcase Events August 5th, 6th and 7th. Qualifiers will compete for 2010 World Footbag Titles. Friday night will be the Freestyle Routine Finals followed by the Footbag Net Doubles Semi-finals then the Singles final to round out the show. Saturday night features the Footbag Net Doubles Finals and a Champions Freestyle Showcase.

Footbag Net

Standard Footbag Net Scoring applies. Last year before GSM starts.

Note: Open Singles brackets will be single elimination. No pool play for singles. Doubles have pools and single elimination brackets are usual.

Venues, court surfaces

Qualifying Net rounds will be played on Laney College Athletic Field where the court surface is grass. There are several shade structures across the net site.

The grass is nice and well maintained by the Laney College.

This site is going to be hot and sunny and nice to play in. Ample water and some shade will be provided across the field to help players with their hydration. You will want to have a hat and even an umbrella to help shade yourself. Bring your own shade structures too. Bring some food for energy. Be prepared!

To protect the World Championship run from the outside conditions, the Net Championship bracket will be played in the Convention Center West Hall where the playing surface will be a sport court.

Outdoor Net Sets

We will be using Jimmy-C nets sets on grass for the qualifying and consolation matches.

The Net Directors are trying to confirm availability of around 16 net sets. If you are coming to Worlds and can bring one or more net sets please email me to confirmation. We will have lines painted so ropes are not necessary. When you deliver your net to the Net Directors in Oakland they will mark every piece of your set to make sure that you get back exactly what you brought at the end of the tournament. Please contact if you can bring a net set.

All net players competing in this tournament will wear uniforms in all their matches. Please place your countries flag patch behind your neck. Also teams competing in doubles events should have matching uniforms. It is enough to have matching shirts. If this is a problem for players registered without a partner, the tournament organization is willing to help.

Refereeing in qualifying matches

All matches in qualifying pools should be refereed by a player in same pool. Players playing in a match do the line judging themselves and the head judge is there for making the calls in case of conflicts. The head judge will also be judging net fouls and contact fouls. Also, the head judge is responsible for getting the match going in time and informing the results to the tournament staff.

The net bags

We will be using 32 panel (Juice,Impact,Blizzard to name a few) footbags in every net match. Footbags will be provided by the players or tournament director.

Coming and Going

Players should inform the tournament staff at the venues when they arrive to the site and especially when they leave. This is very important in order to staying on schedule and also conflicts and uncertainty. When leaving the site, even just for a while, it is important to know where the players have gone and when they are coming back. Matches will be scheduled and players expected to be there and ready to play. Missing a match time will result in disqualification.

Footbag Net Conferences

Future of Footbag Net Conference

TBA. We will be hosting a meeting over the future of footbag net. Our host is WFA Champion and Hall of Famer Chris Ott. Submit your topics to Chris at . The location for this conference will be announced.

Clinic on GSM Scoring System

TBA. All footbag net players are invited. A clinic to help with the transition to a new footbag net scoring system. GSM (Game, Set, Match) is the future of footbag net. The reality is that our sport has evolved into a game where the receiving team has the rally advantage and wins most of the rallys. This doesn't work with a side out game anymore. So here comes GSM to make the game more exciting and competitive.

For us long time footbag net players, this is a big change in format and a change in how the games and matches will be played. Playing the game of footbag net will not change. All rules and concepts of play will stay as written within the IFC Rule Book. The change will come in playing Strategies. How to best combat the new hurdles and nuances of the GSM system. How to save and spend your energy. How to break your opponent's return of serve. How to improve your serve to battle efficiently. These will be different than the past and will take us time to perfect. Be patient and work on it as our sport will benefit big time in the end.

Footbag Freestyle

Venues, Freestyle Arena surface

Preliminary Freestyle will be played in the Oakland Convention Center's East Hall starting Monday where the surface is carpet for qualifying and Finals. There is plenty of room to play and practice inside the convention hall or you can go outside and play in Ogawa Plaza to enjoy the sun.

Music restrictions

Music to be used at this event and in the convention hall has to be of an innocent nature. Music with profanities, racism, battery or other inappropriate lyrics is not allowed or tolerated by the IFPA or event producers. Players found competing with such music will be disqualified from the event. IFPA hold the right to pull the plug on any routine with inappropriate music. Be warned. If you have music that is close to the edge, pick something else to keep in standing with our surroundings and IFPA rules. Copyright approval not required.

Shred 30 rules

In shred 30 the goal is to reach as high score as possible. No top limit is involved. The player's score will be counted according to a formula: adds + (uniques * add ratio), where adds mean the total number of adds you manage to hit in 30 seconds, uniques mean the amount of different unique moves you will hit and add ratio comes from a formula: adds/contacts. there will not be any limit for contacts.

The scoring starts when a player hits/tries to hit his first visible move (basically first 3 add move or higher). For example toe->clip->ripwalk, where ripwalk is the first visible move and toe->clip are preparing moves. If a player drops preparing move it is counted as a drop and time starts from there. Also limit for preparing moves is two. If player hits toe->clip->clip then time starts from the second clipper. All drops/hand catches will be counted as 0 add contacts. Time starts from first contact/attempted contact.

More specific rules

  • Only 3 add moves and higher will be counted as unique tricks. Adds will be counted normally from every trick even if it is 1 or 2 add move
  • Drops are not uniques
  • No x-dex will be used
  • Barfly, paradon, double over down and down double down all ending to same side clipper are only one unique trick (and their symposium versions too). Also reaper and double switch over will be same trick. So setting surface doesn't make more uniques in those tricks. Means also that hand toss dod is equal to normal dod and therefore not a unique trick.

This rule has no affect on moves with a set! fairy ss butterfly<->tapping butterfly are still two unique moves, because they have different sets (fairy<->tapping). Also paradon and tapping butterfly are 2 unique tricks.
  • The last move of your run will be the one last *set* before the buzzer.

Freestyle Judges Meeting

The freestyle judges' meeting will take place in the Footbag Room. Date and time to be announced soon.

Routine music

"Please bring your music on CD, preferably in mp3 format. You will have to turn in your music for ALL rounds at the Registration desk on-site"
