Don't worry, I'm the same way too. Everyone in my area thinks that "hacky sack" is for stoners/hippies and all you do is kick the bag in a circle.
Forunately, I have a really good group of friends online who I chat with that freestyle. We even formed our own little club called "The Quad Squad". If you want to check us out, you can visit:

Or pretty much our official website...

I almost had a heart attack when I read that you have no one to freestyle with and that you live in Chicago. It is a big city, I guess.
Are you still living in the city or one of the burbs? Contact me if you want to get together some time to kick, me and the guys would be more than happy to help you out with Pickup (just to stay on topic ), Pixie and any other moves you want to learn. My club is Chicago Inner Circle. You can get my contact info at: http://www.footbag.org/clubs/show/959505527 |

Thanks for the offer, but i want to be able to do a bit more than just basics before i actually join a club...Right now im lookin into those new oak park freestyle clinics. Maby after that What i meant by i have no one to shred with is that all my friends don't take it seriously, and i never met anyone but me that did here.
Also if i joined a club id have to take a train there cause i live in the jeff park area and can't quite drive yet |

haha, I'm not often in the seattle area, but if I am we'll hit something up.
and on the topic of pickups, i hit bsos toe-set pickups today for my first time.
I'm having fun learning all these tricks, although it's frustrating to know that despite all my progress I'm still a big-time newbie.
ahh well, i suppose the only thing i can do is keep trying!
oh! i was playing with my footbag in a lecture today and this girl behind me said "hey! do you footbag? my boyfriend started the footbag club here!" whoa! she said footbag! not hacky sack! so i gave her my e-mail to give to her boyfriend. oh, and she knew what lavers were! ("did you like, cut them up and stuff?")
ive got my fingers crossed, maybe one day i'll have someone to play with. |

| Don't worry, that feeling comes to everyone at one point or another. Just keep practicing and you'll get better! |

i have a follow up to my previous post!
since the girl tapped my shoulder i have now met and played with her boyfriend.
i had just gotten back to the lockers after having a session and this guy started asking me about my lavers. as it turns out, he was the girls boyfriend. that was yesterday, and today we had our first sesh. it was also my first time playing footbag with anybody.
it was fucking thrilling!
oh, also, yesterday was my first time talking footbag with anybody. up till then i'd just talked AT people about it.
it was awesome to not have to explain anything. |

There's no word you said, that I can't agree with, I also only got friends
hacky-sacking hippie-like in the summer, but will never get further...
They think I'm just exaggerating it a bit, but I also can imagine, that it's
hard to understand : 12 years, every summer there are those funny little
circles kickin that bag around and then there's someone who sais that he wants to do it professionally as a sport...
The last two times I've circle-kicked with some of them, I've worn fat
skating shoes, imensively loose pants and they've played with those
terrible rasta-bags. I hardly could clip it and when I've busted a mirage bsos (after half an hour trial) they hardly could believe it's me !
BTW.: check out flipsider.com and visit the knowledge section and then
go to joining a circle, there's a funny description about how to shove
your footbag-ass into a hacky-circle, but i've got the problem that if
I join one of those circles, they play with those terrible sacks and if
I throw in my bags it's a full-time job to tell them not to shove it on the ground... |

hey guys,
today during our sesh we both hit a trick and neither of us knew the name.
i think he guess paradox illusion.
its.. clip>same out>op toe
but um.. is that just a clipper set fairy to toe?
i'm still working on my naming.
(i just thought i'd mention that this thread contains my first two ever attempts at using something vaguely similar to jobs notation) |
