Hey all
Sorry this has taken a long time. It seems just like everybody else, this has been a busy time of year.
Here are the minutes, I just did them in point form, but my editing got messed up when copying across to the forum.
Ausfootbag AGM minutes
Present: Daniel Boyle (secretary), Dyalan Govender (President), Caroline Birch (Treasurer), Lotus, Jeremy O'Wheel, Leon Schroeder, Ian Pritchard
Nationals 2010
Another success all around
An improvement on last year
It is important to build on relationships with YHA and Royal Easter Show
The only disappointment was the player turnout, however new competitors such as Mitch and Ryan really added to the mix
There was debate between which was the preferred hostel. Sydney Central and Sydney Harbour YHAs both have different things going, however this year SHYHA was also the tournament venue.
Being the first time using the YHA as a venue, there were a number of unknown factors. The return to the Easter show meant there was more of an idea what to expect there.
This year there was only one main judge, Dyalan. More judges are desirable, however this year's turnout did not allow for it.
Ideas were thrown around to change the rules for Shred Battles, though no agreement was reached
Scheduling- Providing a mix between strict timing (eg Royal Easter Show, specific timeslot) and more relaxed events (eg Footbag Golf) is important. A balance needs to be achieved.
Venue was great and we were very lucky with the rain.
Daniel and Caroline to send a thankyou card to Ross and the YHA team
Nationals 2011
Leon nominated interest from the Melbourne University Footbag Club to host the nationals in Melbourne next year
The Easter weekend is the most likely date as it is easiest for people to take time off work or university
An official proposal needs to be received by the end of June Leon to do
Membership
2010 memberships need to be paid by the end of may
Some players paid on the spot, Caroline has kept a list
$30- Fee will stay the same
Caroline will send an email to all previous members, and all those who have been involved in footbag in the past.
Although they may be out of the game, it would be nice for them to know what's going on and they may become involved again in the future
The main items membership fees will cover this year are public liability insurance and the Ausfootbag banner. Ian has bought these out of his own pocket.
Current state of Footbag in Australia
It was noted there has been no growth in Footbag in the previous couple of years
There are less serious players now than 2-3 years ago
Each city needs to bring in more players
Regular kicking times are a good way to attract new players
A standard Ausfootbag flyer that can be changed for each club will be made by Ian
Ideas were discussed about encouraging people from other sports to play footbag. We do not want Footbag to be a warm up sport for soccer players etc, we want people to be interested in Footbag as a sport in itself
Everybody is encouraged to submit content to the website
If people ask about playing, or you performing a demonstration, you should take their details as well as giving out your details. This means you are able to follow up on the progress.
Leon and the MUFC are looking into making a basics DVD to encourage new players
When people buy bags from Lotus through Elemental Footbags, he will include localised player contact information
All players should make sure their contact information and kicking times are up to date on the Ausfootbag website
Executive Positions
-No comments were made on the executive positions. They will stay as they are
President- Dyalan Govender
Treasurer- Caroline Birch
Secretary- Daniel Boyle
