I was looking at different styles of New Balances and wondering as far as these goes, what styles are prefered. I'm not about to attempt to net in a pair of lavers. Also, do net player Mod their shoes as the freestylers do?

Hi Reggie! The most important thing about your net shoes is the flatness of the surfaces. With the way that shoes are shaped these days, it's hard to find flat shoes. The Brooks Beast are still pretty good, and there is a really flat New Balance (M1122?) that came out last year. It's also pretty common for players to modify at least the inside surfaces of the shoes, as these are usually very curved. Look for the past shoe discussions in this forum for more info.
Also, check out my previous discussions "Conan's Commentaries" for tips on training for net.
Good luck and hope to see you at some events this year!

Eric Wulff has some nice looking new shoes, the New Balance 925 BK black leather. Nice and flat, and the leather makes for more consistent surfaces than mesh.
I'm not sure what kind of responses you are expecting on this forum. Have there just not been enough? A few people have offered suggestions, and many of your questions have been addressed on older threads. While it is quite possible to learn this game from watching video and practicing, attending a tournament or other gathering is the quickest way to learn how to play and what it takes to be good.

I started with Brooks beasts, but brought the New Balance M1122 last year. I freaking love them. While their flatness is insane, it's the size of the flat surfaces that's freaky (I wear a size 13). I'm doing things I just couldn't do in my Brooks before, such as substituting a fully extended inside front kick for a fully extended toe front kick. The inside curve on the brooks would shank horribly, but the 1122's have no such problem.
I will say though, it felt like I was walking on stilts for the first few weeks. I was a little scared I was going to break my ankle. After I got used to them, though, no problem.
