Hey everyone,

I was just in the market for a new pair of net shoes, and I ended up getting the New Balance M1122. 'Q' had posted about these down the page somewhere, but I felt the need to post about them again.

As he mentioned, yeah...they're a little pricey. I spent $119 plus tax...about $128 total. It didn't take me long to decide to buy them, though. I shell out 100 bucks on any random number of things without second thought, so why not spend the money on a quality product for the sport I absolutey love that I'll be able to use for several years and will likely help improve my game in the process? Seemed like a no-brainer to me.

But, I gotta tell you, I've never seen a 'net' shoe with as flat of insides as this 1122 model. In all honesty, the insides seem almost slightly flatter than the outsides.

I've only used them 3 times so far, but I'm extremely happy and excited with the purchase of this shoe. My first initial outing saw some serving shanks, but with a slight adjustment, by day 2, I never even noticed any problem.

Great traction, extremely flat insides & outsides, with a toe 'deck' very comparable with the Beasts.

They had a very minor 'edge/lip' where the rubber sole met the leather upper, but a fingernail file quickly smoothed it out with no problems. (I'm sure it would have fine without the sanding, but I wanted these to be absolutely perfect for this upcoming season.)

Anyway, just wanted to share my excitement about the new shoes.

Q had posted a link for them, I'll repost it here...

Not sure if picture hot-linking will work on this forum, if not, just click the links below....

This tread varies slightly from my shoe, but the 'upper' edge of this next pic is actually the outside, while the bottom edge is your inside. You can definitely see how flat that inside is...

this is the inside:

Spiking a bag towards you
in the near future,

Those shoes are great!
We ordered a bunch of them for Finnish players and got them for decent price 85 euros. You're going to see a lot of those shoes in Helsinki.

My brooks beasts died a horrible death (wore through at the balls of the feet) so I was in the market for a new shoe and brought the M1122. I like them a lot better than the beasts, and that's saying a lot as my beasts were fully broken in after 2 years of use and the M112's are right out of box.

I wear a size 13 2E and they just seem better all around: flatter, lighter (I think), larger sweet spots, more comfortable. I don't miss my brooks at all.

Thanks for the recommendation,
Neil

Looks like a decent shoe.

I wanna ask though, is the sole one piece, or several glued on pieces?

This was the major weakness of the Beast, but is not an issue with the Brooks Addiction or Addiction Walker(leather). I have several old pairs of Beasts, all of which would still be usable if not for the unglued sole. My two year old Addiction Walkers on the other hand still look like new, only with a little less traction and rigidity than my brand new ones. The downside is they are hot. Durability is a big issue with me, so let me know how your shoes look at the beginning of next season.

113 USD Addiction Walker
29 USD Insides modification by Medicus

142 USD Total

I would say the sole is made of multiple pieces. I have low expectations for durability for these guys.

How does one get ones shoe modified as you have pictured Bob? Who's "Medicus"?

The problem of New Balance M1122 and M1121 is that the sole is pretty high which makes the shoe heavy as well.
I used to play with the M1121, but I switched to Reebok DMX. They kick ass, but they are dieing. and it is impossible to find them Crying or Very sad

Medicus is a company that makes medical equipement, and prosthetics. They also make custom ortho shoes, and have an excellent shoemaker on staff, and he has been modifiying our shoes since '01-'02.

He has said that he can flatten just about any shape of shoe into a decent kicking shoe. The mods are not too heavy, and they even add some lateral stability. When I went to buy some new Addictions, I thought they were defective until I realized it was the lack of "patch".

There is only one way for your shoes to be patched by Medicus, they must come to Montreal... E-mail me and we can arrange something maybe.

Bob
