Does anyone know of any person or company still making footbag golf drivers?

Toes at Flying Clipper used to make the best drivers, but I just exchanged some email with him and sounds like they don't make them anymore. I'm actually going to try to get in a little putting practice with him while I'm up in Eugene.

For those that don't know, I'm talking about footbags made specifically for golf. They are similar to net footbags, but usually are a little heavier, a little smaller and use a little stronger material.

If there is no source for them anymore, I might try to make them myself. Surprised

So since I didn't have any luck finding anyone that makes footbag golf drivers anymore, I went ahead and started making my own.

I'm using a 14 panel pattern, 6 squares & 8 triangles. For my first attempt, I'm just using some spare vinyl I had laying around (from making a poker table). If that works well, there is some heavy duty shiny vinyl at Joann's that I will buy a bit of and try to use. They have it in both white & red, which are great colors for finding in grass/weeds/etc.

Once I finish the first one, I'll take a couple pictures and post. (if anyone cares Smile

Well, here is what I've been able to do so far:

The one on the left was my "proof of concept" bag I made with some leftover vinyl I had around the house. Way to big and way to heavy to actually be a legal bag, but it showed me that I could make one.

The one in the middle is my 2nd attempt and the first attempt to really replicate the old Toes (Flying Clipper) driver I've been using for years. Definitely not there yet, I had a really big problem turning the bag inside out and ripped some seams while trying to do that.

Going to try to sew the next one a bit farther out to the edges of the pieces of vinyl.

How do they compare against just using a net bag? That's what I always do.

Net bags, especially brand new ones that are still nice and hard, work just fine really. The only difference with that old Toes driver is that it was a little heavier and made of a little bit stronger material.

We also use "nuggets", which are crazy tiny drivers (maybe 1" across?) filled completely with BBs. Those are by far the drivers that we get the best distance out of, but the roll on them is VERY inconsistent. I like having a driver that is as heavy as those nuggets, but is a little bit larger to get better roll out of it.

I typically use 6-7 different bags when I golf:

Nugget driver (biggest distance)
Toes driver (2nd biggest distance with better roll)
New Pro Kicker net bag (lightest driver I use, but has best roll)
Old Pro Kicker net bag (softer, more beat up, doesn't get as much distance, but easier to control the roll)
Sippa (25-50 feet mid range bag, LOVE the roll on this bag)
32 panel putter (15-20 foot inside putts)
8 panel putter (inside 15 foot inside kick and inside 5 feet pull down)

I could not find any drivers either. I started making my own. I have been making them out of pig skin suede. I tried lamb but it is not near as durable as pig skin. I have not had any problems with any of the pig skin bags. I have made several for other people and they seem to like them. I make all my own bags now. If you want to try one of mine I could make you one.

I can actually make Footbag Golf bag sets. I also make regulation goal holes out of aluminum. I am not aware of anywhere you can buy these? Not sure how to post pics but I could post some pics if I could figure it out. Here is a link to a pic of a golf hole I made.

OK that link did not work. Anyway I have been playing around with different leathers and vinyls for drivers and I have come to the conclusion that vinyl is the way to go. I have found what they are calling a "marine grade" vinyl that is thin and very strong to be the best. These drivers seem to out drive any leather driver I have made. The material does not stretch (permanently) and the driver stays as firm as it was the first time you use it. Very consistent and seem to be indestructible. I tossed one up and hit it with a soft ball bat and it had no problem with it. I love these drivers. I played with a few friends the other day and they all wanted me to make them one after giving one a try.

Sounds good Brad!!! I know they sell Marine Vinyl at my local Joann's Fabrics, I may have to try that next if I can't get this shiny vinyl stuff to work right.

I have been out of the loop for the last 2 years since retiring from the sport. This sport has taking its toll on me. I have destroyed my knees, dislocated my hip, compressed the vertebrates in my neck, buldged and slipped discs in my back and had my fair share of twisted ankles. The net play and my lack of care for my body when it came to service poaching at Funtastik's Tourney did me in.

I dusted my bags off this year for the PA State Footbag Championships. Took home the win and continued my streak of being unbeaten in golf since 2000, 36 Tournament win streak. Including 2 world championships. Perhaps the one name that had eluded me was Davey Piper.

My Bag-

Drivers - I carry 2 Mini Drivers ( made by the Canadian Footbag Alliance ) I carry 2 32 panel driver ( Made by Toes and I believe Reed Gray who worked for Toes) And I carry 2 12 panel drivers that I made ( size between a net bag and a mini driver). I CARRY NO NET BAGS.

Mid Range/Putters - all made by me - a few 32 panel, mostly 12 panel. For mid range shots I fill the bag with polly pellets and bbs ( full to 70, the consistancy of a firm sepia sepia) The putters are the same pattern, but fill mostly with bbs. ( the consistancy of a dirt bag).

For drivers, I would try CFA. See if Scott is still making drivers( it would probably be a special request) email them to find out. Tell him that I sent you.

For Putters, I would look up Waylon Lew. Tell him I sent you, and that you are looking for a putter. He will know what to do.
