How many practice hours do you get in per day/week. I've been trying to get in between 30 minutes to an hour at least every other day. I know it varies from person to person, but I'm curious to know what people have to say. Thanks in advance! Great site!

Dale,

I'm going to have to gauge how much practice I can take w/out injury (I'm 41). I sometimes work out in 10 minute spans between changing the baby's diaper and taking the trash out.

Enola is SE of me and about 3-4 hours away. I hope he can find someone closer. For the price of gas he'd be able to buy a couple new pairs of Lavers. I'm trying to connect with other locals because there has been a noticeable level of new interest in footbag in my area over the last few months.

It all depends on what u want to do in the sport. Do u want to compete? The more time u spend the better. U will learn and understand the moves faster. Myself, I've been hackin for a little over a year and evertime I practice, it's an hour minimum. That includes shredding, working on new moves, and perfecting the ones u already knw. Make sure u practice both sides also. If u give all u got everytime u practice, the next time you'll be better somewhere in ur shred or moves. Important thing to remember is to pace yourself. I don't take breaks longer than 2mins at a time. With that said, practice as long as u can. Jim penske told me when I started out that a good goal for shredding to look foward to hitting 20 without dropping it. Good luck.

Mike,
Great, practical advice. I played soccer for 12 years while growing up in the 1970s/80s (about 15 seasons). I always tried to use both feet then and would spend lots of time juggling the ball. Even though I haven't played soccer for years now, those many years of practice have helped me in using both feet w/ the footbag. I enjoy the challenge and discipline of the sport and want to encourage youngsters (I'm a principal/teacher) to pursue it. Thanks again for your inspirational input!
PS I once saw Pele play live for the Cosmos and he drilled an incredible bicycle kick all the way from the corner with a defender on him- a perfect blind corner kick! It is seared in my memory to this day.

Great news! I'm 43 an I've been playing every day for upwards of 1260+ days in a row! Plus 23 years prior experience. I get better every day!

I blog at http://www.footbagfreestyle.blogspot.com. Sharpen your blades and never let you brain decieve your body with lame justifications that would support giving up! I train, I compete, I perform, I educate and I have a blast doing it! Footbag has enriched my life on so many levels.

See ya!

Scott, Thanks for the inspiration! My wife and I lived in Oak Park from 1997-2004 (both of us graduated from Moody in the '90s). I wish I would have known you then - you could have been my Jedi master for footbag! I'm glad I've gotten into it in the past couple months after just kicking around casually every great once and awhile.

I know what you mean about the whole "don't let your mind fool you" thing. I'll be sure to check out your blog site.

Tom

As another 41 year old and recently returned to footbag, I'm also inspired. My target is now 20 without dropping the bag.

Freestyle can be intimidating to the casual observer when done correctly. But my motto is "Inspiration over Intimidation" which is why I am energized to hear others are inspired by us 'old' cats still shredding! There is hope after 40! And I haven't missed a day of it.

The link I posted previously was wrong for my blog, sorry... here is the correct link:

Great news from the Arthritis Foundation! They have a new ad campaign featuring 'motion' as a preventative strategy to avoid Arthritis problems without medicine. What could be a better form of movement than Footbag? Lets play into our golden years and see if they are right!

It's great to see some older shredders out there, but I have you all beat. I'll be 63 next month and love to kick. I try to spend 1/2-1 hour a day 3-4 days a week. Will do more when it gets nicer outside!! I'm working on legovers and mirages now -- they are coming along, but slowly.

Ken,

Even more inspiration from the elder shredder set! Keep workin' on it!
I've only been serious about freestyling for a couple months. but I'm really doing my best to get in as much practice as possible. I've enjoyed working on a flying clipper>sole delay the past week or so and have nailed it a few times. My oldest daughter, Hannah(9), is my coach/cheerleader and is always trying to get me to work on new moves.

Keep shreddin'!

Tom

PS Happy early Father's Day to all of you dads out there! My wife is due to deliver a baby tomorrow but I think she may end up being a few days late (Father's Day would be a cool day to have the baby!).
