I'm curious. I see that there is a category for kickers older than 55 in competitive footbag and wondered how many of us there are. I turned 60 last July (2007), play at work at lunch (mostly solo), and have reached a high of 100 consecutive touches on the hack (alternating feet, head, etc.). I'm working on some 1 Add tricks and hope to migrate to the 2 Adds soon. I'm not competitive as yet, but am planning to be when I retire in a couple of years.

Just wanted to say kudos to you for still being active in the sport. Any others your age would be few and far between, I think some of the originators of the sport (John Stalberger, Gary Gaman are the ones I've met) are in their 50s (?) but don't really play competitively very much (or at all) any more.

Thanks Ben. I appreciate your response. I am a little dissapointed that I haven;t gotten any responses from some old farts like me. Oh well, keep on shredding.

Based on the number of views on this post, and lack of replies, I'm guessing that not many of you are in the 55+ age range.

Let me ask you another question -- what would you think of an over 55 person (senior citizen?) joining your circle and shredding a bit?

As long as everybody is content in pushing themselves to the limit of their own ability and no comparison between the dexterity and flexibility of a teenager or a 20+ year old to that of a 50+ year old takes place, I see no problem.

There are many active pro net players in their late 40s and early 50s:

Yves Archambault, Montreal
Martin Cote, Montreal
Bruce Guettich, Colorado
Peter Shunny, Colorado
Chris Ott, California
Jody Welch, California
Tricia George, Oregon
Paul Vorvick, Oregon
Tina Lewis, Texas
TIm Vozar, Texas
Garry Gamon, Texas
Jack Lentz, Pennsylvania *may be oldest active competitor?

Most top freestylers quit competing in their 30s, due to the intense joint pounding of the game. Learn to play net Wink

Kick on!!

I wouldn't mind at all. It's the same as someone my own age joining. As long as you are willing to put your best effort into it and have fun, that's all that matters.

Thanks Chris, if I'm ever in Ontario, I'll look you up. I am ejoying the heck out of this sport and figure I'll do as much as my flexibility allows.

I have a history teacher who hacks with me and my buddies every now and then. He may not be over 55 but if I had to guess Id say he's getting close. Considering he's a teacher, one of the people we have to avoid while hacking at school (they say we scuff the floors up....wtf), hes not bad.

Hey Mitch,

It's good to hear that there are some old dudes out there still kick'n. My wife & I are heading down to the US Open in Portland next month to see if I can find some others in the "old fart" age bracket and am going to check out the folks who can really bust some moves. I haven't seen Footbag Net played either, and am looking forward to that. Should be a good time.

Kenar
