Chicago is hosting the 2006 Gay Olympics, and personally, I think its just about the weirdest thing I've ever heard of. It's probably some whacky scheme to have athletes that aren't good enough for the real Olympics to get a medal or trophy. And they're not only open to gays, but straights, too! Imagine going up to your buddies and telling them you competed in the Gay Games, and then had to explain that you're still straight! I think this is just another way to get America's attention. Again, I'm not trying to be a jackass. Post your thoughts on this subject.
Of course it's 'just another way to get America's attention', and the purpose isn't to annoy but to inform. The gay community stills fights a lot of ridiculous stereotypes and discrimination, including the notion that they're all limp-wristed girly men. Do you think anyone would hold that stereotype after finding out that the group of powerlifters he's just had a grand old chat with at the bar were in town for the gay olympics?
This sort of thing is about promoting mutual understanding and respect.

why do they have gay games when gays can already participate in the regular games...like the olympic games?, and being gay does not determin physical ability? its not like the special olympics or anything...man, thats pretty gay.

omg - how can you guys be so ignorant. The point of the gay games isn't so that gay's can win medals or to decide the best gay athlete - it's to promote homosexuality in a postive light and as Cameron said - to deal with stereotypes etc. I think it's important to realise that although everthing you do might be for your own personal gain - not everybody in the world is like that and plenty of things are motivated by non personal reasons.

i think it would create more and promote stereotypes, those people whi are anti-gay or hate gays or whatever might say, "good, they dont deserve to be in regular games, im glad they finally notice they are worse than everyone else" (i dont know) but something like that.
