These are just some guidelines (not strict rules) for posting to the forums on footbag.org:
(1) Grammar:
Please try to use good grammar in your posts. We know lots of you aren't native English speakers and we will be more tolerant of people who fall into this category. However, those of you who speak English as a first language should at least try to make it appear that way
We do not wish to edit or delete posts based on bad grammar. But we do respectfully request that you at least try to use the capitalization and punctuation rules you learned in grade 4. If it's bad enough we may issue you a request to clean up your act or be subject to editing or deletion.
(2) No advertisements:
Don't even think of blatantly advertising for products or services for your own personal gain, or for that of anyone else. It's fine to edify and inform people of products, rate them and discuss them, etc., but it becomes a problem if it turns into a formal endorsement or advertisement. We run this service under the auspices of a non-profit corporation, and with resources that cost over $100 a month at the current rate. We will not have the forums turn into a marketplace. We will not be responsible for transactions that go bad as a result of a member of this website or this forum entering into any financial interaction with any other player or member.
Repetitive, "subliminal" ads are NOT okay. Please just be *honest* and if a discussion comes up that involves your website or your products or services, feel free to discuss it openly. But do not annoy list members with constant mentions of your favorite websites or companies.
(3) Thinking:
Please don't reply willy-nilly to posts. Think it out, decide whether or not you want to post the message to the forum or just to a person you're talking to. And then, carefully consider whether your message will be rejected. It wastes the moderator's time and yours if you post a message that will be rejected. And you know who you are, those of you who have the same types of posts rejected over and over again, so please cool it.
(4) Don't be lazy:
Don't post questions that you can easily find the answer to yourself. Don't ask before you check the website. The best thing to do before you begin posting is to read *everything* at http://www.footbag.org/faq (F.A.Q. stands for "frequently-asked questions"), as well as on the freestyle section at http://www.footbag.org/freestyle -- and of course the footbag.org website is the repository for most of the information people frequently want relating to footbag. For example, don't post "what kind of shoe do people use?" or "what kind of footbag do people use?", and especially not "what kind of music do people listen to when they play?" The first two are easily answered by reading the information online; the third is just plain annoying. Use the search feature of this forum to find all relavent previous discussion, or search other forums and/or see the archives for the old discussion lists which are at http://list.footbag.org for further historical context.
(5) Editing and deleting posts by users has been turned off. Please be careful about what you post. Once it's up there, unless a moderator deletes it, it's up there forever. Remember this is not an anonymous forum.
