Congratulation for the 5th anniversary of YOUR footbag club. We, the
Sunshred Crew has not done much to YOUR GROWTH, so we will not be present.
We would like to organize our announced event at the exactly same date as
YOUR event, February 26th - the last Saturday of February, when we
traditionally organized MECCA FOOTBAG CUP (Sunshred Footbag Open) in the
past 2 years - since ITS (our?) beginning. (See note #1)
According to our information, your are the vice-president of the European
Footbag Committee, a subcommittee of IFPA, which is "responsible for the
oversight of the development of footbag specifically within Europe."
(Quote from: http://www.footbag.org/groups/list/5)
I think it would be your personal duty to support growing footbag
tournaments in Europe, that get better from year to year, and not to
distract attention from them for a birthday party of YOUR CLUB, something
"personal" - even though it has truly been a very succesful organization.
Also, the birthday of the Frankfurt Footbag Club could be celebrated with
honor in a different place (namely Győr), where many European Footbag
Players would gather after a fun, yet this time very serious contest.
Please also see note #2!
NOTE #1: Announced Contests on February 26th. (Listed in order of
registration. Information: www.footbag.org/events)
- 3rd Annual Sunshred Footbag Open (Created Saturday, December 11th, 2004,
- Colorado Shred Symposium 6 (Created Tuesday, December 14th, 2004,
- RNH Contest 2005 (Created Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004, 06:05am (PST))
- 5 years Frankfurt Footbag e.V. (Created Monday, January 10th, 2005,
NOTE #2: Live broadcasting of the contest (and maybe of a birthday party)
on the internet through streaming media. Our organization focuses on that,
and of course many more things to set the standards for a high quality contest
- not as it has been before - hence the change of the name of the event.
Sunshred Footbag Crew, Győr, Hungary
it´s a shame that both events are on the same date.
I have been to the Mecca Footbag Cup last year not only because of fun (it surely was) but also because of the responsibility of my vize-presidency, which is like you said, due to the oversight of the growth of our sport.
I would definitely come to the Sunshred Open, however on the 26th February it has been exactly 5 years ago when the Frankfurt Footbag Club has been founded. Exactly 5 years! I am unfortunately the president of the Frankfurt Footbag Club, so I can't possibly miss our first jubilee.
But you have to know, that our anniversary, which will not only be a party, but also a Jam where we rent a big Gym for the whole day (like in györ last year), is mainly for all the people in and around Frankfurt who helped us in the past 5 years to develop the Footbag sport in this particular area.
Our anniversary is not in competition to your event! We are celebrating our jubilee and all the players who want to compete at a good tournament are ask to go to the Sunshred Footbag Open. We don´t want to "distract attention" to your event. This is an event for our supporters not for the players, which is also very important!
I am sure you would do the same if your club has it´s first jubilee.
Furthermore the "birthday party" is a very important duty to support the growing of footbag in Europe, because this way we can give all our supporters something back for their help, trust and duties for us in the past! This is definitely NOT something personal. It is the celebration of 5 years of working together and organisation of the biggest footbag events in Europe and the development of the biggest footbag club in germany.
To set the standards for a high quality contest is the main aim and work which the European Committee is focusing on. Ali and me did a lot last year to develop the paper "European Standards" (which you can look up at footbag.org) in order to realisation.
Both events are important for the growth of the sport. You are wrong to say one of them might be more important. I would love to be on both events, but this year it is not possible.
I hope that everything with your tournament will work out well. Ali D. will be there and tell me how the quality of your Footbag Cup developed.
You can register me for next year's tournament.. .

First off, we have to apologize if our post was "harder" than we wanted to be (We didn't want our post to be hard though). We didn't want to say that your event was in competition with our Footbag Cup or one of these events are more important than the other, just wanted to mention that 3 European events on the same date are more than much. I think we misunderstood your event's aims, because all the registered events on www.footbag.org are serious - in my opinion. We don't want to mean that your "birthday party" is not serious, but yours and our events have totally different goals.
(CSS6 is on the same date, but there is NO problem with two events on the same date from two different continents.)
Both events are important for the growth of the sport.
We totally agree with that.
Last but not least we'd like to say "Happy Birthday to your footbag club!", and we hope that your jam is going to be held with a great success.
